PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
FOR THE REPAIRS AND REFURBISHMENT OF MABOPANE STATION CONCOURSE, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF LANDSCAPING, SEWER & WATER RETICULATION IN THE NORTHERN GAUTENG REGION.

Project Name and Location:

• Repairs and refurbishments of Mabopane Station Concourse Design and Construction of Landscaping, Sewer & Water Reticulation in the Northern Gauteng Region (NGR)
• Facility: Mabopane Train Station
• Locality: NNME 1, Soshanguve, 0152
• GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 25°29’45.5″S
• Longitude: 28°05’23.1″E

Through the assessment of the site by PRASA and the consultants, the following needs were identified.

• The refurbishment of the concourse
• New layout for stores, offices, banking, and restaurants
• New finishes including floors, walls, sanitary fittings, mechanical equipment as well as upgrading signage.
• This project will address both infrastructure damaged whilst addressing the need to acquire an occupational certificate from the municipality for the building.

 Project Objectives:
According to PRASA the project aims to contribute to the realization of improved operational efficiencies and income generation and realize standalone financial viability by increasing externally generated revenue through (lease rentals and improve customer experience in train and bus stations of PRASA as stated in PRASA corporate plan.

The station upgrade and commercialisation initiatives will bring about the “new look and feel” to the stations with anchor tenants and reputable line shops, to the station.

Project Outcomes:
The following outcomes are desired:

• Development will capitalize on the needs of the area.
• Development to compliment the surrounding developments.
• Development will generate good revenue whilst revitalising the area.
• Development will promote SMME’s and create job opportunities.
• Enhance customer convenience.

Project Success Criteria:
The project success criteria will be benchmarked on the following:

• The successful completion of the project in time and within cost and KZN-DoH’s specifications and requirements
• Meeting the intended project objectives
• Successful achievement of the functional and technical specifications of the project
• Occupational Health and Safety Requirements having been met and completion of works without any negative or adverse events.
• The achievement of National Building Regulations for the facility.

Project Scope:
The project scope will encompass.

• The refurbishment of the basement, concourse, mezzanine area and train platforms
• The layout and design of shops, office space, ablutions facilities, open walkways.
• New signage
• Upgrade of the facades
• Making the building watertight and functional to meet building codes as well as PRASA specifications
