Proposed Isipingo Retail Development

Construction of a retail development over a live railway station at Isipingo near Durban; constructed using a precast structural frame and precast slabs the development covers some 24 000 m2 of retail and parking space.  

All precast elements were manufactured and assembled on site.  One of the many challenges faced by the team was erecting the super structure over live power lines and an active commuter station.

Proposed Scope of Works to Existing Heritage Building

We visited the site on the 26th of April 2015, to carry out a detailed measurement and define the scope of works for the existing heritage building. 

The Isipingo Retail Centre, also known as the Isipingo Shopping Centre, is a commercial development that was constructed by PRASA CRES over the live railway station in Isipingo, Durban. 

About the project:
Client: PRASA CRES (Corporate Real Estate Solutions), the property division of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
Construction: The development involved building a precast structural frame and slabs over the active railway lines and station.
Details: The retail center and accompanying parking area cover approximately 24,000 m².

It is located at Phila Ndwandwe Road, Isipingo Rail, Isipingo, 4110. 

Retail information:
The center is designed with commuters in mind and offers a variety of stores, including:

  •         Spar: A grocery store.
  •         Clicks: A health and beauty retailer.
  •         Rage: A fashion and footwear store.
  •         Other offerings: The mall will feature fashion, food outlets, banking halls, and other everyday essentials.
